TTU Miracle Breaks Fundraising Record

Tennessee Tech University (TTU) Miracle hosted their second annual Dance Marathon event Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, as part of their Tennessee Tech homecoming festivities. The event was started in 2016 as a sorority philanthropy event through Phi Mu Fraternity and raised more than $3,900 in year one. Current Phi Mu philanthropy chair, Mackenzie Goodwin, was selected to continue the event, and that is when she decided to take it outside of Phi Mu and partner with the homecoming committee to make it a more inclusive event for TTU students.

With the help of a small student committee, Mackenzie coordinated the entertainment, activities and logistics for the six-hour event in Memorial Gym and recruited 794 participants and 10 teams. At the beginning of the year, their goal was to double last year’s efforts by raising $10,000. However, when the final total was announced, they had raised $61,830, a 1,451% year-over-year increase. This is the highest fundraising increase in the history of CMN fundraising for Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
